a system of unnamed alpine lakes situated at the end of the highly scenic Roháče valley, surrounded by the impressive scenery of the Western Tatras. The four main lakes are arranged in “terraces”, one above the other. It is one of the most popular and beautiful hiking trails in the Western Tatras. The lakes are linked to a legend about a woman who lost her two sons and husband to the noonday witch, Poludnica. She sat weeping over their graves until she was transformed into the granite mountain Plačlivé, from which her tears trickled and filled the lakes.
