Slanica Island of Art Námestovo

the beautiful scenery of the Slanica Island of Art in the middle of the Orava Reservoir (Oravská priehrada) is the setting for a permanent exhibition of folk art. Of the five villages that were drowned forever in the construction of the reservoir, all that survived was a hill on which stand a Baroque church and Calvary chapel. The hill once overlooked the village of Slanica. A few years later it was chosen to host a permanent exhibition of the Orava Gallery, which opened in the 1970s.
