Orava is the birthplace of one of the giants of Slovak literature – Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav. While he was working in Upper Orava he produced a work on a clash of two worlds: the cottage and the manor house – the lyrical epic Hájnikova žena (the Gamekeeper’s Wife). The exhibition at the lodge documents this work, which is his greatest and his best known. The lodge, which Hviezdoslav visited, was the birthplace of the writerMilo Urban. He is the subject of an exhibition in a neighbouring building. Hviezdoslav’s gamekeeper’s lodge was the first true literary museum in Slovakia to be dedicated to a specific work.
