a unique village with its own distinctive way of painting houses. The lower part of the village has been declared a folk architecture reserve. The rows of log houses painted with white decorative patterns resemble gingerbread cottages from a fairy tale. The village is famous for its embroidery and folk costumes and for its unmistakeable living folk traditions. Some of the village’s “gingerbread cottages” are still people’s homes. Two of the houses have been converted into exhibitions of period life, work, folk costumes and folk art. These are “Raden’s House” and “Log House No 42”.
