Mariánske námestie Žilina

the urban heritage reserve measuring 100 x 100 m centred on the town’s main square is one of the oldest and largest in Slovakia. The square with original Renaissance townhouses, the two-towered church of the Conversion of St Paul and the Jesuit monastery, is the only square in the region to have retained arcades around its full perimeter. These would originally have been used as shops or places for craftsmen to ply their trade. Many buildings have preserved their Gothic cellars.
